Houston Astros with 10 new players in the active roster – MLB News
Whatever the result of Friday’s Opening Day game, the Houston Astros were making a different start. The team had 10 players who were having their first appearance on the active Opening Day roster.
The Houston Astros which aspire to have an impressive performance this season will be having their first game against the Colorado Rockies. The new players who will be part of the roster include the outfielders J.D. Martinez and Brian Bogusevic, second baseman Jose Altuve, pitchers David Carpenter, Rhiner Cruz, Fernando Rodriguez, Kyle Weiland and Lucas Harrell, catcher Jason Castro and shortstop Marwin Gonzalez.
The Astros have gone big changes with the new owner taking over. The inclusion of these players in the roster will be a harbinger of something good and promising coming their way.
"Opening Day is a big day," said Martinez, who was called up last July. "I used to go to Opening Day in Miami and it was a big, big game. That was the game to go to. I'm just excited to be part of it now, and I'm the guy standing on the field now instead of being in the stands."
Among others, it is the starter David Carpenter who is filled with excitement over the prospect of being the part of the active roster. The player is indeed looking forward to the game where the Astros would be expected to remain strong enough to get on the rival teams.
“Guys talk about how great Opening Day is, and to get to see it firsthand is going to be a lot of fun. I've got a feeling there's going to be butterflies like there was the first time I got the chance to take the mound here.”
The Houston Astros will have three-game series to play against the Colorado Rockies. How good the whole season be cannot be gauged by the performance here. Nonetheless, it will make a strong case for the Astros as to how prepared they are to put stiff resistance to the stronger teams.
