Houston Dynamo lost the second home game of the Major League Soccer season 2011 at Robertson Stadium, breaking the near flawless six-game unbeaten run against fellow MLS team, Colorado Rapids. Where the current MLS champions put in one of their best performances
of the season, the Dynamo made a couple of mistakes and were made to pay for their complacency.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colin-Clark-c9387 made a good move in the 71st minute of the game, breaking the deadlock in the process. However, his joy was short-lived as the Rapids hit back soon after. Barely two minutes following the Dynamo goal, Tally Hall’s goalkeeping howler
downed the Orange. Jamie Smith stepped up to take a free-kick near the 25-yard mark. Hall misjudged the flight of the ball and it bounced right in front of him and rolled the rest of the way into the net, levelling the score line in the process.
The next goal came in the 84th minute from a Marvel Wynne throw-in. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scott-Palguta-c32669 chipped the ball into the net to seal the match with a one goal lead. This was the Dynamo’s second home loss of the season and interestingly, the winners for the
opposition came courtesy throw-ins on both occasions.
The floppy net protection was the real reason behind the loss, as expressed by the Dynamo head coach, Dominic Kinnear. “It’s disappointing to go one up and be ahead, and then make a couple of mistakes and come out with nothing,” said Kinnear after the match.
The culprit goalkeeper, for his part, refused to run for excuses and accepted his faults. “I made a colossal error and the team paid for it,” Hall said. “Unfortunately it happens, and it happened today. Smith serves a good ball in. I’m trying to be big and
I misread it from the beginning and I was punished for it.”
Houston Dynamo now drop down one place to third in the standings. The statistics have deteriorated to 3-2-3 (3 wins, 2 losses and 3 draws). The team, despite controlling the second half and even going into the lead, was left with nothing to show for its
efforts. However, the opposition defence has to be given credit for staying water tight at the back.
“To be 1-0 up and three minutes to give up the goal so soon is always deflating,” the coach said. “The effort was there and I thought we controlled good periods of the game. I thought they defended well and took advantage of the mistakes we made.”
The team now travels to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toronto-FC-c40744 on May 7 and Kinnear will be hoping the defence – and Hall in particular – does not repeat the costly mistakes on the road.
