Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey regrets letting Jeremy Lin go – NBA Update
So far in the season, the Houston Rockets have done many things right – a 16-11 record with the 4th spot in tightly contested Western Conference speaks for itself.
That record however could have been better, if only they had retained Jeremy Lin.
On Thursday, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey expressed the same feelings on his official twitter account;
"We should have kept [Jeremy Lin]. Did not know he was this good," Morey wrote. "Anyone who says they knew misleading U. [Lin] is a very good player but Linsanity was not happening here this year."
The now New York Knicks point guard has been sensational, averaging 25.3 points and 8.3 assists over his past three games, all won by the Knicks.
Till last week, the Knicks were all about three stars, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler. And with none of them delivering, the Big Apple franchise was on a continuous downward spiral and badly needed some inspiration
to set the ball rolling in their favour.
They finally got the break on Saturday night, in a game against their arch rivals – the New Jersey Nets.
With Toney Douglas struggling against Deron Williams, Mike D’ Antoni, the Knicks coach pulled off a desperation move and introduced his third choice guard, Lin into the game.
What transpired after that shocked all.
In a career-high 36 minutes, Lin erupted with a career best 25 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds leading the Knicks to a 99-92 win. The man, who had been bought off the waiver by the Knicks after he had been
disposed twice – first by the Golden State Warriors to bid for DeAndre and then by the Houston Rockets to make salary space for Samuel Dalembert – had finally made a break through.
Knicks gain is Houston’s loss, but Morey knows that this is the way things work out in the league. In a separate tweet, he wished Lin a good future;
"Finally, really happy for [Lin]. Very hard working, nice, & humble. He has a great, great future."
Lin didn’t stop there.
In the next game against the Utah Jazz, which the Knicks were without Stoudemire and lost Carmelo after six minutes, Lin again came to the rescue. Starting the game, the point guard hammered 28 points and had eight assists, the
first time any starter had a 20 point – 8 dimes game in his debut since 2003, when LeBron James emerged on the scene.
Then against the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, the former Harvard standout, who went undrafted, pounded 23-points and distributed 10-assists opposite John Wall.
In the next game, the break out guard will now be up against a certain Kobe Bryant, and for a change, not all the eyes will be on the Black Mamba.
