Houston Rockets’ Goran Drajic set to play for Caja Laboral during the NBA Lockout
With the decertification of the union in the last week, the NBA lockout has reached a stage where the chances of not having a season are quite realistic. This has compelled many players to start considering overseas option seriously
and the international leagues have come back with their offers as well.
While many players are still taking a sneak peak at the overseas options, Houston Rockets young shooting guard Goran Dragic has found his destination to play during the ongoing NBA lockout.
The 25-year-old guard is heading to the Spanish league to play for Caja Laboral. The Spanish club also confirmed the singing of the Slovenian basketball player on Sunday and announced the agreement for an year.
Another Houston Rockets player Chase Budinger is also close on reaching an agreement with Lokomotiv Kuban in Russia. Kevin Bradbury, his agent had this to say regarding the deal;
"The deal is not done yet for Chase, but I think we're pretty close. It would be a wonderful opportunity for him to get to play competitive basketball while the NBA is locked out. We're going to be very aggressive to find our guys
places to play during the lockout." Bradbury said.
The Spanish league has so far managed to sign the most number of players. Goran Davis will join Rudy Fernandez of Dallas Mavericks and Serge Ibaka of Oklahoma City Thunders, who have also committed to play in Spain until the time
lockout is lifted. Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has also indicated to return for Barcelona if the entire NBA season is cancelled. These stars can be followed by the Gasol brother – Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers and Marc Gasol of the
Memphis Grizzlies.
On the other hand, the chances of league getting back to business are getting slimmer by the day. The players have already filed two antitrust lawsuits against NBA and its owners and are now intent on solving the matters in the
court. The owners had already indicated that there will be no more negotiations.
There are however still some days left for the owners and players to resolve the labour dispute on the negotiation table. The chances of it happening though are next to nothing.
