Houston Rockets going into the rebuilding mode – NBA Update
After getting their hands on two young exciting forwards in the form of Terrence Jones and Royce White in their year`s draft, Houston Rockets are looking to trade away Luis Scola in a step to move towards the
rebuilding phase.
Rockets also drafted Jeremy Lamb out of Connecticut with their 12th overall pick and are considering their young selections as key ingredients to their future. According to sources close to the matter,
by using their present starters, the Rockets are looking to rebuild around the youth.
General Manager Daryl Morey has been searching for teams who would allow them to trade away Scola for next season and the franchise has also been considering to trade point guard Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin in
order to clear up room to bring in a ‘franchise player’.
They have certainly joined the list of hopefuls who are looking to bring in, ‘want-away’ centre Dwight Howard from Orlando Magic. However for deal to materialize they would have to reshape their entire roster.
This is a bold step from the Rockets considering they have not been able to keep an iconic player in the last few years and Howard is expected not to sign an extension if he at all lands in Houston.
However, if they are to take a significant leap beyond their current average status, they would have to go through several key changes and take some crucial risks. These may not work at once but will help them
in the following years to come. Shopping for Scola, Martin and Lowry seems to be one such gamble.
By trading their established trio, they would have to being in decent options; a superstar – although very unlikely – would be the best bet. All the available stars in the free agency or the trade market all
being suited by big market teams and to compete against them, the Rockets will have to present a very strong proposal.
Thus, the present scenario, it would be best if they pin their hopes on the younger options and add some more depth in their roster. They have reportedly agreed to bring in Omer Asik over from the Chicago Bulls,
a deal worth $25.1 million for three years.
That is just one step along the long progress road if they are to get out from being a mid-level team to a genuine powerhouse in the NBA.
