Houston Rockets had a busy off season for sure, but the gains are not there to see – NBA Feature Part 1
The Houston Rockets are one team that are always very proactive when it comes to trades and signings, and this offseason was no different. The Rockets were one of the most aggressive team in free agency this summer, and seemed
to be involved in so many different deals that it became difficult to keep a track of everything that was going on. However, sometimes being too aggressive can be a bad thing as well and there are moments when teams tend to over-do in their efforts of making
something happen. The Rockets offseason and summer was spent doing much of the same.
The Rockets had a good 2011-2012 campaign in which they finished with a 34-32 record and just missed out on reaching the playoffs, finishing in 9th position in the Western Conference.
The Rockets were doing much better than their final seeding in the West showed and at one point they seemed to be in full control of their playoff charge. The team however melted down in the last 10 games, going 3-7 to miss out
on the final playoff berth, which was fiercely contested by them, the Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns.
The Rockets were dealt with a big blow during the season when their starting point guard Kyle Lowry was sidelined with injury. However, one man’s loss was another man’s opportunity and entered on the scene Goran Dragic, the reserve
and backup guard for the Rockets.
He picked up starting guard duties in the absence of Lowry and had breakthrough year, leading his team to one victory after another. Dragic was one of the positives for the Rockets from the season as they looked into the future.
With the Rockets finishing just short of a playoff berth and a solid back court in the making, they started their offseason scouting with high hopes. However, they lost track of what they were trying to achieve somewhere in the
middle.
The first move the Rockets made was engage Omer Asik in conversation, which gradually progressed into them giving him a $25 million offer for a three year contract.
