Houston Rockets looking to trade Samuel Dalembert – NBA News
The Houston Rockets are reportedly trying to trade Samuel Dalembert, it has been learnt. The Rockets have always been an aggressive team with respect to trades and are on the lookout for a good trade deal.
Before the 2011-2012 season, they were involved in a three team trade with the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Orleans Hornets that would have landed Chris Paul to the Lakers and Pau Gasol to their franchise. The deal however broke
down after NBA commissioner David Stern, who was effectively the owner of the Hornets at that time, objected to it.
The Rockets eventually got Samuel Dalembert in a deal with Sacramento Kings, but if rumours are to be believed, they are entering now trade season looking to trade away the big.
Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld recently tweeted on the issue:
“The Houston Rockets are shopping Samuel Dalembert, according to sources. He may be packaged with one of Houston’s first-round picks.”
Houston have the 14th and 16th pick in this year’s NBA Draft scheduled for June 28th. Dalembert is owed $6.7 million for the next year but can be bought out for $1.5 million by July 8th,
after which he would become a free agent.
Dalembert however knows nothing of such a development. Talking to Hoopsworld in a separate interview, Dalembert was asked if the Rockets had given him any indication regarding his future with the club. Dalembert replied:
“No. They have so much to figure out this summer for themselves. I’m just going out there and making sure I get myself ready whether they keep me or not. I just have to stay ready. I like it in Houston. It’s a very nice city. The
people are very hospitable. The people are really good here, nice. It’s a good organization. I enjoy myself with the guys. We had good times, fun times.”
Dalembert is a 9 year veteran in the NBA, having played with the Philadelphia 76ers for most of his career. He was picked up by Houston in the 2011-2012 season, and averaged 7.5 points, 7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks while playing 22.2
minutes per game last season.
The Houston Rockets did not reach the playoffs this past season, after being in contention at one point. They ended the regular season poorly and lost the chance to reach the playoffs, with Denver climbing up the Western Conference
table.
