Houston Rockets point guard Aaron Brooks to miss 4-6 weeks
The Houston Rockets are having one of their worst starts in franchise history, and their campaign could get more difficult after starting point guard Aaron Brooks has told the Houston Chronicle
he will be out for four to six weeks with a sprained left ankle.
The 25-year-old speedy point guard sustained the injury during their game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday 6 November. He was sidelined on Sunday 7 November, ending his streak of
119 consecutive games played, but the Rockets crushed the Minnesota Timberwolves, 120-94, for their first win of the season.
“I don't think I ever had an ankle injury like this before,” Brooks said. “I did break my hand in college, sat out like eight weeks. As far as football, I never had any injury. Luckily, nothing
is broken. It is a sprain. I'll be back to normal.”
The former Oregon stand-out was injured when he landed on Manu Ginobili’s foot after throwing a 40-footer before the half-time buzzer, but Brooks said that the Argentinian guard had no dirty
intention of hurting him.
“I don't think anything of it,” said Brooks, who is averaging 16.4 points and 5.4 assists in their first five games of the season. “Bang bang play, and it was just an accident.”
Brooks' injury was another blow to the Rockets' campaign since the 2010 Most Improved Player was expected to provide much-needed spark for his struggling team this season. The Rockets also
played without back-up point guard Kyle Lowry, who is still recovering from a sore back, forcing them to start undrafted rookie Ish Smith.
The 22-year-old and former Wake Forest stand-out, Smith struggled to find his touch from the floor but managed to score seven points on 3-for-11 shooting to go with six assists and four rebounds
in 42 minutes of playing time.
Smith will likely start again when the Rockets travel to the nation’s capital to face John Wall and the Washington Wizards on Wednesday 10 November, but head coach Rick Adelman is hoping
that Lowry, who has only played in two of their six games, will be fit to play in their next game.
