Houston Rockets should consider re-signing Marcus Camby - NBA Update
Houston Rockets missed the post season action and headed home early to spend the long summers. With nothing left to play they have a lot of time to make suitable changes in their roster. While few of the players will be taking
the hike, they have yet to decide about the fate of Marcus Camby.
The 38-year-old veteran has still some spark left in him. He is willing for one more run with the franchise and given his age and previous contract it will be mutually beneficial for both parties to rehire him. Touching 40’s he
will not be looking forward for any long term commitment. He will be willing to accept a contract that ranges in between a veteran minimum and midlevel exception.
Though he is living in the memories of his prime but the former defensive player of the year has both statute and influence to mentor the youth and pose credible threat for adversaries at the same time. The 6’ 11’’ centre though,
averaged 4.9 points but also provided Houston with defensive depth. In the 59 games he managed to average 9 rebounds.
Houston hanged tough till the end of regular season and at one point they came very close to secure the 6th
spot in playoffs picture. However the last 3 of 7 game losses took its toll and they finished off the season with a 34-32 record.
They had a good run especially in contrast to Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards and similarly they don’t require a phenomenal roster change to become a credible threat next season. Rockets have their bench blended with a
perfect mixture of youth and veterans. Things are not that gloomy for Rockets as they are for other franchises (Bobcats, New Orleans Hornets, and Wizards).
Rockets will be having their key player Kyle Lowry coming out of the rehab, finally healthy. Moreover Luis Scola, Chandler Parsons and Kevin Martin will be having a long off season routine to explore their lost touch. While they
will be under the stewardship of, hall of famer savvy coach Kevin McHale.
The coach holds the perfect plan to turn things around in Rockets favour. The youth needs to be polished and veterans need to step up. This is the perfect squad for Camby, overlooking his ageing years he is still fuelled with ‘will’
that is enough to steer the team through few more rounds.
Heading into the free agency he is yearning to be re-signed by Houston.
“I would like to be here (Houston), but I understand the NBA is a business,” the centre said. “A lot of suitors are going to be trying to reach out. This is where I want to be. So hopefully, we can make something work.”
