Houston Rockets sign Marqus Blakely for three years: NBA Update
The Houston Rockets signed an agreement with the NBA Development League’s Marqus Blakely for the next three years. Blakely is performing well with the Iowa Energy in the NBA D-League and has agreed to sign a three-year non-guaranteed contract with the Rockets.
Blakely is currently averaging 15 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in this particular season in the D-League. He joined the Rockets’ roster in Minneapolis where they played the last game of the season against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Though the Houston
Rockets came out victorious with 121-102, but they still could not make it to the play-offs this season. This was the second consecutive occasion in which the Rockets have failed to qualify for the play-offs.
Blakely’s presence during the match was much appreciated by the Houston fans, but he still needs another season to start for making a debut in the NBA as he was not in the starting line-up. Blakely is a former star from the University of Vermont and has
been named twice as the American East player of the year. He has come into the Houston with high hopes and years to play ahead in this professional league. However, Blakely’s agent Sam Porter was also very optimistic on this contract.
Porter further mentioned about the possibilities as how Blakely would settled down in the Rockets’ roster. Blakely started his career playing in the Bakersfield but was soon traded to the Iowa Energy in the NBA D-League.
The real fame he earned during his time was at the University of Vermont. Blakely has won the Kevin Roberson America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the year award twice in his career. He also earned three times the America East Defensive player
of the year. The most recent achievement by Blakely was the winning of the State Farm Division 1 College Basketball Slam Dunk contest in 2010.
Marques Blakely will be replacing the Rockets’ forward, Mike Harris. Harris signed a 10-day contract with the Houston Rockets which has expired now. The next season will bring a whole package of Blakely to make him outshine among the very best in the NBA.
