Houston Texans, LT Duane Brown ink $53.4 million six-year deal – NFL News
Houston Texans’ left tackle Duane Brown has won a six-year, $53.4 million contract, signed by the stakeholders on Thursday.
This has cleared the phase of uncertainty that has recently surrounded the player’s prospects with Texans and after signing the deal, the LT said it was great that the team had posed confidence into his abilities.
He said:
"I understand they had a lot of confidence in me, a lot of faith in me. I'm just very grateful. I try to put in as much work as possible, and just do my part for this team and make it successful, and I'm going to continue to do that."
Later, Texans also issued a brief statement, confirming the deal. The payout includes $22.08 million in guarantees. Texans’ general manager Rick Smith said:
"We are thrilled to have solidified our offensive line with this extension for Duane. We believe Duane is an outstanding young left tackle who has the determination, commitment and ability to develop into one of the NFL's top performers.”
The GM said it is equally exciting and beneficial for the organisation to sustain the player in the longer run without causing any delays and confusion. This will ensure stability and consistent progression of the team’s vision, he said.
Duane is excited that the issue of a long-term deal now stands resolved, allowing him to focus his game without any worries. After signing the left tackle, the team has to deal with the contract situation of quarterback Matt Schaub and outside linebacker
Connor Barwin at the end of this season.
Schaub in one of his statements earlier in the offseason had expressed ignorance about the deal issue. He said he was not aware if his agent was in contact with the management on the matter, and apparently he was not worried at the moment.
He returned to action for the first time in the preseason opener last week, after having remained in the recovery phase in Lisfranc surgery since November 2011. He is confident of health and fitness now.
