Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub upbeat about recovery progress from foot injury-NFL News
Houston Texans’ quarterback, Matt Schaub, has spoken of a great optimism about the recovery from a foot injury well before the start of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) regular season.
It is for the first time that the player has offered any remarks about the injury.
The injury proved to be season-ending for the player and he is in recovery phase since having Lisfranc surgery on his right foot.
His absence added to the difficulties of the team, which, at one point of the season, became quarterback-thin as it lost one after the other attackers to respective injuries within the short span of few weeks.
Another quarterback, Matt Leinart, was also forced out of the side after receiving a season-ending collarbone. At the end, Texans were left to rookie, T. J. Yates, for the starting role.
Yet the side managed to overcome the injury problems remarkably well to reach the playoffs after winning the American Football Conference (AFC) South division title for the first time in the franchise’s history.
They came closer to making it to the AFC championship game, but could not get past the Baltimore Ravens.
Now the team is as much confident about return of Matt Schaub from the injury before the start of the regular season as the player himself.
Schaub said:
"It's going great. As of today (Feb. 29), we're 13 weeks from surgery, and things are progressing really well. We're really pleased. I'm a little ahead of the game. It's a matter of strengthening and making sure everything stays to form in there with the
hardware in my foot."
The quarterback has not played since week 10 of the 2011-12 NFL season and will join the squad at the start of the next season.
Matt Schaub said that he did not have pain in the foot and seemed to be well ahead of the recovery schedule. The development should come as good news for the team and the player.
He is due to have a second procedure on the foot to remove metal plates.
His return will certainly boost the offensive unit of the team, which also has services of T.J. Yates and a couple of veterans at the backup positions.
Meanwhile, there is no news about the recovery of Matt Leinart. It is yet to be confirmed if and when he will be able to report back his fitness.
There is no surety either that Texans will retain him in the presence of Matt Schuab unless they suffer the same injury problems this year again.
It will be even more difficult if the management decides to retain the veterans Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia, who were added to the side for third and fourth positions, respectively, in the later part of the 2011 NFL season.
Both of them had come out of retirement to play for Texans as a back to their young quarterback.
