Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson hopeful of QB Matt Schaub regaining form this season-NFL News
Houston Texans’ quarterback, Matt Schaub, received endorsement from his colleague and wide receiver, Andre Johnson, who lately found it very difficult to swallow the possibility of Indianapolis Colts’ former quarterback, Peyton Manning, pairing with him
in case of his signing by Texans.
Johnson said that he was optimistic about Schaub regaining his form when he returns from a foot injury, to join the squad in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
He said to have great confidence in the QB to lead the team from the front, any time, adding that he was looking forward to pair with him again in the next season.
Schaub missed more than half of the 2011 NFL season due to Lisfranc surgery on his right foot, but now he is said to be ahead of the recovery schedule and definite for rejoining the squad this season.
Andre Johnson who himself had missed a significant part of the season due to a hamstring problem remains hopeful of superb performance while playing together with Schaub.
He ruled out that he had taken seriously the talk around Texans’ interest in signing Peyton Manning, which, if happened, could have resulted in some difficult and uncertain situations for the receiver.
Andre Johnson said:
"I didn't really look much into it. I didn't think that he would even come to us. When they talked about the teams that he possibly had a chance of going to, the two teams that I said was Denver or San Francisco and, as it started winding down, I figured
he'd probably pick Denver."
Even though he has not admitted it openly, it remains a fact that Johnson feels comfortable with Matt Schaub and could not believe for a moment that he would be playing along with Manning.
He said of Schaub:
"I know what type of player Matt is. I know when he's healthy, what he can do when he's out on the field. He was having a great year until he was injured."
Texans were unlucky to have lost their key players, Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart and Andre Johnson during the past season, but still managed to qualify for the playoffs after winning the American Football Conference (AFC) South division title, for the first
time in their franchise history.
The managers who recently received rather encouraging news about the fitness and return of Schaub are hoping to avoid the difficulties of last year.
It is going to be a tougher season for them as Texans are coming into the 2012 season as Super Bowl contenders.
So, the higher standards warrant the team to have a hundred per cent healthy and fit squad throughout the entire season.
