Houston Texans aim for healthy squad and fit QB Matt Schaub to defend AFC South title-NFL News
The Houston Texans are aiming for an injury free season when they come back as one of the Super Bowl contenders into the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season in September.
It is going to be for the first time that Texans will be playing a season as the American Football Conference (AFC) South division champions, courtesy of their triumph of last year.
The record performance of last year has set too higher standards for Texans and they will be playing with an added pressure of fans’ expectations and their hopes of doing even better this season.
Definitely, it is not going to be an easy ride for them this year as the South division looks to become very competitive this year. The Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars will be out with a completely new outlook and the competition is going to
be tougher and harder.
So, Texans must be ready to face tougher run this year and will have to prove that they are competitive and consistent winners and their last season’s feat did not come as a stroke of luck.
Amid all the scenarios, the management is hoping to maintain a healthy, fit and in-form squad throughout the next season.
A repetition of last year’s experience when Texans had to face too many injury problems will certainly leave them very much in trouble.
Crucial to their victories is going to be quarterback, Matt Schaub. He had been impressive in the start of the last season, but suffered a season-ending foot injury to sit out of more than half of the season.
His fitness and form is going to be very significant for Texans to defend the divisional title and play beyond the first round of the next season.
Although, Texans had managed to survive to win the AFC South title and claim a berth into the playoffs while relying on rookie, T.J. Yates, they realised he alone was not enough at the end and they definitely missed Schaub at the depth of the season, when
the run to Super Bowl is more competitive.
As of the latest, the team has very encouraging news from the injury front of Schaub. The player is said to be well in advance to the recovery schedule and is certain to re-join the squad most probably in the training camp.
Since Texans have recently announced to have cut another star QB, Matt Leinart, who himself has remained limited to fewer appearances due to injury problems, presence of Schaub in the team throughout the season becomes even important.
All the team officials have so far been upbeat about Schaub’s fitness and if the player is able to maintain his fitness throughout the season, Texans could get another title and playoff berth, and may be even more.
