Houston Texans aim reshuffling of players into multiple roles as cover for certain positions-NFL News
The Houston Texans have all of sudden become wary of their situation at certain positions as after losing a couple of players to other teams off the free agency, the team is down to reshuffling the players into multiple roles to provide cover for the positions
lacking strength.
One key player in front of them, who is known for the versatility of his skills, is fullback, James Casey, and apparently coach, Gary Kubiak, is looking up at him as a solution to the team’s woes.
The coach said:
"He’s going to play everywhere. He’s our starting fullback. He’s a starting (tight end) if we go to two tights. It’s still about versatility with James."
So, going places will certainly be very helpful for the player if he wants to keep rotating from position to position and his future performance will prove the effectiveness of the one-man solution option for the team.
Texans were unable to re-sign fullback, Lawrence Vickers, and tight end, Joel Dreessen, who have tried their luck elsewhere in the league, and now Kubiak’s side is in dire situation at certain positions.
Casey himself has spoken to be not happy over departure of the two players. He said:
"It was sad to see those guys leave. I was really close to Joel. He taught me a lot when I came into the league, and I really looked up to him.”
He added:
"You have to understand that it’s part of the business. I look at it as an opportunity because there are spots available at tight end and fullback. I don’t really know what my role will be right now."
It is for the second time that Texans have become thin at any position. Last year, they were quarterback-thin at one point, but mainly due to losing a couple of players to respective injury problems.
This time the situation looks to be self-created and if Casey does not come up to their expectations, they might well be regretting their inability to retain the pair of players.
Some commentators see it to be rather casual approach on part of the management given that the team is coming out into the 2012 NFL season as a Super Bowl contender.
