Houston Texans back WR Andre Johnson as veteran leader – NFL News
Houston Texans’ offensive line has thrown its support behind wide receiver Andre Johnson and cherishes him as a true and loyal leader in the team who has been a part of all ups and down since joining the Texans in 2003.
Johnson has also admitted that he at many times thought of playing somewhere else, as some times he was disappointed about the team’s inability to make the playoffs for consecutive seasons but then was happy to see younger players looking at him as an inspiration.
He said:
"You find out a lot about yourself, if you're going to be loyal or if you're just going to run away from it. My thing was I wanted to stay. I wanted to be a part of something special. I wanted to help this organisation to where it is now."
Now he feels happy that his patience is paying him off, although he regretted to be not being a part of the side in 2011 when they made the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history. Johnson missed as many as nine games in the season because
of hamstring injury scares twice in the season.
The receiver says:
"I was excited, but at the same time I was down because you're just like: `Man, I know I could be out there helping the team. Those would be the times that I would kind of get down on myself and hope that I could hurry up and come back."
From quarterback Matt Schaub who joined the team in 2007, to running back Arian Foster, all see Johnson as a respectable figure in the team. They admittedly have been learning from him as a leader throughout this time.
The Houston Texans have already been through to the playoffs for the second season straight, and Johnson is happy that he has been taking part in all games this year without any health or fitness issue. He hopes they further progress in the season.
It is pertinent to note that the Texans are Super Bowl contenders for the first time.
