Houston Texans beat visiting Atlanta Falcons to record 6th win in a row – NFL Recap
Injuries-riddled Houston Texans side that was without their first and second-string quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart and their star receiver Andre Johnson overpowered visiting Atlanta Falcons 17-10 in a record victory on past Sunday.
Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates, who had been backed up by the injured Matt Schaub and Coach Gary Kubiak to start at their quarterback position in their next game, threw a touchdown pass. This was his first game as a fulltime starter for the Texans.
Arian Foster meanwhile rushed 111 yards as the Texans recorded their historic win over the Falcons. This was the Texans' sixth consecutive win in a row.
They are 9-3 in the American Football Conference (AFC) south division. It is a remarkable feat for a side given the reason that it had started with a third-string quarterback and had been riddled with injuries at other positions as well.
The Atlanta Falcons were seen having advantage over the Texans given that their resurging side had recorded some good victories on the way to Houston, while their hosts were struggling at the quarterback position due to consistent injuries.
"This is a league of talented players," Falcons coach Mike Smith said. "First-teamers, second-teamers, third-teamers -- I think we had the advantage on paper, but you've always got to go out and play the game. It doesn't matter who was on the other side."
The Falcons, 7-5 in the National Football League (NFL), had remained on offense throughout the game but, Texans' defence proved too good for them.
One of the best defence sides, Houston, knocked down two passes from Falcon's Matt Ryan in the end zone, just seconds from the end of the game.
The Texans T.J. Yates was given support from the veteran Jake Delhomme, who had been signed by the Houston Texans a week ago. The team managed to use the rookie Yates well at the starting position.
The Falcons coach was not surprised by the Texans strategy for the quarterback position. "It is a system offense," Smith said. "It is based on the running game and, so, regardless of whom the quarterback is, there are the same actions."
The win has given further confidence to the rookie. With veteran Delhomme just at his back to help him through his performance, is expected to improve to be even better in coming games.
