Houston Texans can potentially trade Ben Tate for another receiver – NFL News
Houston Texans’ running back No 2 Ben Tate has recently made headlines again over his potential trade, which is certainly a right option for the team if they look to add a new wide receiver in the squad, which they desperately need this
season.
Texans' star WR, Andre Johnson, has been hit by a number of injury scares. He sat out a majority of games in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, and is again out with a knee surgery. The team hopes he returns from the injury
by training camp or at least preseason.
Texans do not have any guarantees that Andre will timely recover from an arthroscopic knee surgery he had last month, and amid the uncertainty, they have been advised by many pundits to look for addition of another receiver to the roster.
Apart from Johnson’s health issues, commentators are true to their view given the team is coming out in the 2012 season as a Super Bowl contender and they cannot compromise on the receivers' situation.
Also, another receiver is crucial to complement performance of their star quarterback, Matt Schaub.
Even if they are left to the second-year QB, T.J.Yates, the team will need a receiver of Andre’s calibre to supplement his form and output.
They have the last year’s performance of the then rookie Yates as a proof that he in presence of Johnson performed better than games the receiver did not play.
Matt has already pointed out the need of an extra receiver.
As far as Ben is concerned, he is a horse who the team is yet to test in real game settings. He missed his entire rookie season with an ankle injury, which unfortunately suffered in the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Some media reports earlier in the offseason had linked Tate to a prospective move to elsewhere in the league under a trade arrangement. The rumours have hit the air again. The team did not buy into those claims then and are yet to clarify
them now.
Irrespective of what outcome is for the second-year RB, almost the entire NFL analysts group agrees Texan do need another receiver.
