Houston Texans claim 43-37 thriller vs Jacksonville Jaguars in record-beating game – NFL News
The Houston Texans continued their winning streak by clinching a thriller against the visitors the Jacksonville Jaguars with 43-37 final score in front of their home crowd on Sunday (Nov. 18).
It was one of the most competitive games that the two franchises have played so far, and it was also a record-breaking game for both teams.
For example, Matt Schaub threw for 527 yards, the second-highest number of yardage achieved by any quarterback in the league history. Jags’ wide receiver Justin Blackmon ran for over 200 yards along with Texans’ WR Andre Johnson wrote a new record of two
receivers catching for over 200 yards each in a game.
No doubt it was a team work from the Texans but it was down on 14 passes that Johnson caught for 273 yards that rescued the Texans as a loss before then appeared to be imminent.
On other hand, Blackmon, who is rated to be the most talented rookie receiver in the team, broke out of phase of a lull on the weekend to catch for 236 yards.
QB Matt Schaub who completed 43 passes for 527 yards has performed a true leadership role. He also threw for his career-best five touchdowns that was the main difference in the game.
Before Johnson’s last touchdown, the loss looked imminent for the Texans. Johnson said of the situation:
"When I caught the ball, and I saw how open I was, I was looking around like, 'Where are the defenders at?. I took off running, I kept looking. I thought the cornerback would come from the outside, but he wasn't there. It was just the safety, so I was just
saying to myself, 'I can't let him tackle me.' "
It was also a good sigh of relief for Matt Schaub, who said:
"Something we can look back on as we move through this. because there are going to be games like that, that are not always going to be a two- or three-score lead in the fourth quarter."
With the win the Texans have extended their American Football Conference (AFC) North lead to 9-1. They are in commanding position now and making the playoffs appears to be imminent for them. So does the division title as their competitors Indianapolis Colts
are far behind them. The Tennessee Titans and Jaguars are nowhere closer to qualify for the playoffs.
The loss has added to the miseries of the Jags as they have managed a single win in the season.
