Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak backs Trindon Holliday for special teams role – NFL News
Houston Texans’ coach Gary Kubiak said wide receiver Trindon Holliday, who had third kick return for a touchdown of the preseason phase in the game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday, has made a strong case for himself to be Texans’ special teams’
threat in the league.
Gary admits it is a rare feat for a player to achieve in his first year of pro career but the coach has sounded a warning to the player not to get carried away, saying the team still has a long way to go.
The coach said:
"You're asking me to say that now? Nobody has made. We're not finished yet. He's made a heck of a case for himself."
Trindon said he is excited about what he achieved but denied to have devised any particular strategy for it. He said:
"The plan was just to come out and just make plays and show the team that I can be a special guy.”
He added:
"It hasn't been a secret, you know. It's just being smart about everything and just coming out and working hard. I think I can consistently do it."
It is great news for the Texans that they have found potentially leading special teams return of the league, which should brighten up their prospects of progressing to the playoffs and beyond this season again.
The Texans will start the season on September 09 as Super Bowl contenders. It will be a great achievement for the Texans if they somehow manage to reach the title game, but making progress as much as to playing in the conference game should not be an inferior
feat for them either.
Gary is upbeat about the chances and he has aimed all his talk and preparations with the title game in mind. He has often sounded strong warnings to the squad against falling prey to complacency given playing in the playoffs last season for the first time
in their franchise history took the team into celebrative whirl. This can affect the players’ performance to an extent, and the coach while being aware of it is pushing players for further hard work to get past from the previous year’s level.
