Houston Texans’ defence puts up strong show under Wade Phillips – NFL News
Houston Texans’ defence, which had a major role in the team's progress to playoffs for the first time in their franchise history in 2011, did not have many chances to prove its mettle this season, but after this Sunday’s (Nov. 11) opportunity versus the
Chicago Bears, the defensive line showed it remains very effective whether or not actively participates in each and every play in a game.
Thanks to arrival of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, the Texans have remained amongst the top-five defensively strong teams, and their performance against the Bears on the past weekend was one of few hallmark show-offs of the team’s defence.
Interestingly, Texans’ offensive line has been starring in their majority of wins this season and the defence was sort of put on the back burner, but when the occasion arrived they responded as effectively as they had done on the offence.
Coach Gary Kubiak has showered all praise on his assistant DC Phillips and it was yet again that he spoke high of the team’s defence performance on the weekend.
This was timely return of the defence given the team has been affected on the offensive line to an extent. Tight End Owen Daniels, who is just behind wide receiver Andre Johnson in total number yards, missed the game due to a back problem, while other players
of offence could not put up a strong show in the rain-hit game.
It happened to be a day for defence. They not only managed to defend the line strongly, but they in the process gave some thrashing to the opponents. Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler was knocked out of the game with a concussion and did not return.
There were some other bright points of the overall impressive performance staged by Texans’ defence, contributing to the much-needed victory for their side.
It has helped them to extend their lead to the decisive position of 8-1. With a few wins more they are certainly booked for the playoffs, and who knows they surprise everyone in the league this year by reaching the Super Bowl. They are out as the Super Bowl
contenders and the way they have played so far, reaching the title game must not be difficult.
