Houston Texans expect WR Andre Johnson fully fit into 2012 NFL season, cut Jacoby Jones-NFL News
Houston Texans expect back wide receiver, Andre Johnson, to be fully fit this year, after he sat out the better part of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season, suffering from a number of health problems.
Johnson missed quite a few games at the start of last season, with a hamstring injury, playing a few games in between before the recurrence of the problem. This forced him to miss a number of games near the season's end.
The player was also reported having some groin problems, but his hamstring was the main concern that required him extensive rest to regain recovery and fitness.
His return with full fitness next season comes as a welcoming news for the team managers, deeply concerned about Johnson’s fitness last year.
In order to fill the holes at the receiver position, the management has also picked up two receivers in the 2012 NFL draft, held from April 26 to 28, 2012.
DeVier Posey is one of the two players signed by Texans. Posey comes from Ohio State college. He was picked up in the third round of the draft.
The team also signed Keshawn Martin from Michigan State in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, Texans have released receiver, Jacoby Jones, who spent five seasons with the team. He recently came under Texans' radar, scrutinized in reference to a considerable decline in his performance during the last 2 years.
Even though Houston Texans reached the playoffs and won the American Football Conference (AFC) South Division title for the first time in the franchise's history, in 2011, the team was exposed at certain positions, possibly the reason for a hlt in further
progression.
Texans was quarterback thin at one occasion but managed to cover up the position through need-based fresh hiring.
However, its receivers’ problem lingered on until the end of its campaign.
Although Johnson’s injury was not that serious, he could not make it to the side when needed.
It was probably the anticipation of his return at some point of the season that made the management not pay much attention to the receiver’s situation.
Texans, coming out as Super Bowl contenders this season, considered the need at different positions rather seriously this year. Thus, the draft hiring was directed likewise.
