Houston Texans face Chicago Bears in Week 10 – NFL Preview
It is the tie between two defensive big guns of the league as Chicago Bears host Houston Texans in Week 10 game on Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois.
Both Bears and Texans are currently standing on top of their respective divisions, thanks to a 7-1 record put up by each of them.
Bears are aiming to get their seventh consecutive win in a row as they follow up from a very smooth first half of the season.
However, they will start a long and gruesome second part of the season where they will face some quality opponents. Talking about the game, Bears head coach Lovie Smith said:
"Each game as you continue to win, the stakes go up a little bit higher. We realize that and we're going to embrace it. We're going to embrace this national stage that we have this Sunday night. We're a good football team. We're excited about playing the
Texans.”
Texans are currently leading the American Football Conference (AFC) South with a superb performance from their defensive team as well as good support from the offence. Talking about the Texans’ chances to beat Bears, Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said:
"(The Bears) are very well-built in what they do and they've been together for a long time. What they're doing speaks for itself. We have a serious task ahead of us. It's kind of a strength against a strength, hopefully we can hold up our end of the bargain."
Texans offence has certainly stepped up its game and has given away only six turnovers this season which is the lowest in the league.
Star running back Arian Foster has been phenomenal as he has rushed for 770 yards and has scored 11 touchdowns, most by any running back this season.
Quarterback Matt Schaub has thrown 12 touchdown passes and has already covered 1,918 passing yards in eight games.
Defensively, Texans are doing business as usual as they have allowed an average of 17.1 points per game.
Their running defence has been especially very superb. They have not given a single rushing touchdown this season.
Defensive end J.J. Watt has defended 10 passes and piled up 10.5 sacks, moving towards becoming a contender for the defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season.
Meanwhile, Bears defence has been working marvels this season. They are currently ranked second in scoring defence. The defence has also compiled 25 sacks and 28 forced turnovers.
Offensively, Bears gave a breakout performance in their last week’s 51-20 victory against Tennessee Titans.
Quarterback Jay Cutler scored three touchdowns in that game while running back Matt Forte carried the ball 12 times for 103 yards and scored a touchdown.
It will be an interesting encounter with both teams having equal chance of winning.
