Houston Texans given hopes for Yates return from shoulder injury to play Saturday game – NFL News
The Houston Texans have been given a hope for return of their rookie quarterback Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates for their very first game of their very first playoff season against the Cincinnati Bengals at the Reliant Stadium this Saturday.
Yates left the field in first quarter of the Texans game against the Tennessee Titans on past Sunday and did not show up for rest of the game.
Despite their earlier silence his side later confirmed that the player had suffered a shoulder injury but denied it was serious enough to cost him his next game.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak who confirmed on Monday that T.J. Yates had a bruised shoulder expressed hopes he will be available for their playoff game against the Bengals.
He went on to admit that the player shoulder was still sore but said he was hopeful for his recover before the weekend game.
"He's very young, and this is a big, big game," Kubiak said. "But he's the best guy for our team, and if he's able to go and do the things we need him to do in practice, then we'll turn him loose and let him go."
Kubiak’s side is already shaky following their consecutive losses in last three games and the news of another quarterback falling prey to injuries may not serve well into their expectations from their first playoff season.
The side is already without their quarterback Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart. Both the players are out due to their foot and collarbone injuries, respectively.
Yates had taken their place after being promoted from fifth position to the number one spot in their line-up. He performed well in his first two appearances but went down the mark in the last three games.
Meanwhile, Texans new signee Jake Delhomme has backed his side to win their first game.
"This is a young, hungry football team that works," Delhomme said of the Texans. "I know I haven't been here long, but last week on that practice field, just watching guys fly around you saw how important it is. This team is going to be ready and sometimes
innocence is bliss."
Delhomme replaced Yates at the quarterback position in the Texans last game. It was first game for Delhomme as the leading quarterback. He was signed by the side out of a retirement in November 2011 but along with Jeff Garcia, the Texans’ another new signee,
as Yates’ backup.
