Houston Texans have faith in T.J. Yates to start at quarterback for them this Sunday – NFL News
The Houston Texans have put faith into their rookie quarterback Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates to start at quarterback position in presence of their new signed veteran Jake Delhomme and Kellen Clemens.
Yates had played at quarterback position last week after Matt Leinart, who had been brought as replacement of their regular quarterback Matt Schaub, was forced out on the sideline because of a collarbone injury.
Matt Schaub who is out for rest of current season due to foot injury had backed T.J. Yates at for quarterback position. The Texans however have signed veteran Jake Delhomme to find a Leinart's replacement.
All three players shared snaps during their practice session on Wednesday. Texans' coach Gary Kubiak however expressed faith in T.J. Yates to start in their game against North Carolina on this Sunday.
Texans' quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp has also backed Yates, saying the player has developed as a rookie quickly. He can accurately make throws, he said.
"He's done a fine job with his knowledge of the offense," Knapp said. "He's definitely prepared himself for this situation. The only thing we're all going to have to go through is the learning curve he has, as a rookie. But we
feel very confident that he's going to have his mind and game ready to go on Sunday."
Meanwhile coach Kubiak said that it was exciting to watch all three players sharing snap in the practice session. It will be interesting to watch them play on Sunday.
"Hopefully it's going to work real good," Kubiak said with a smile after practice. "It's interesting. I've been doing this a long time, and I've never been through this. But I tell you what; this team is very upbeat and understands
its challenges."
It is all beginning from zero for Texans, after losing their two quarterbacks straight in current season. Their star quarterback was to go first due to his season-threatening foot injury. He was replaced by Matt Leinart. Having
made a promising start Leinart was injured within half hour of the game and was forced out on the sideline for rest of the game. He is now being ruled out for current football season.
