Houston Texans head into Tennessee Titans game with depleted defensive line – NFL News
The Houston Texans have admitted they are heading into the Tennessee Titans game this Sunday (Dec. 02) without a number of key players from offensive and defensive lines, who are expected to be on the sideline with respective injury scares.
It was confirmed by coach Gary Kubiak during a mid week injury update of the team who said almost all the players did not show up for practice this week, at all.
He said the injury lists include offensive linemen Antoine Caldwell and Derek Newton, linebacker Bradie James, cornerback Johnathan Joseph, linebacker Brooks Reed and cornerback Alan Ball.
Although the coach did not say if absence of these players will have a major impact on the team’s performance, there is worry on the defensive line for the team. The coach had earlier admitted the team would have to adapt to a different strategy to make
up for the loss of players on the defensive line.
Gary has urged players to minimise the number of mistakes they have been committing more recently. A particular worry for the team is that the defence has allowed too many passing yards and touchdowns in last two games, although defensive coordinator Wade
Phillips has downplayed there is a need to be concerned about the performance of defensive line.
According to Wade, the important thing for the team is that they are finding ways to win every game and that is most important for the team rather than performance numbers.
The Texans are 10-1 atop of American Football Conference (AFC) South and need only a win to be through to the playoffs, which will be their second consecutive berth. They played in the second round in 2011 for the first time in their franchise history and
are well on the course to play it again.
With the win the team is also set to finish atop AFC South, clinching the divisional title for second straight year. Although the team had achieved all this after having successfully handling the injury scares at quarterback position, the same problem has
become a sign worry for them now again. It is to be seen how they come out of the situation this year.
