Houston Texans hope rookie WR DeVier Posey will improve receivers’ situation – NFL News
The Houston Texans have finally confirmed another receiver to their squad after signing rookie DeVier Posey to an unknown deal, which also helps the side to have almost done with locking in their entire selection of the 2012 National Football League (NFL)
draft held in April.
DeVier's signing is expected to improve their receivers’ position to some extent as amid continuous injury problems with their star WR Andre Johnson the team lacks talent at the position.
Quarterback Matt Schaub has already spoken of his worries over the receivers’ situation of the team, which is set to go even worse if Johnson does not return from the latest arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
He already missed most part of the 2011 NFL season with a hamstring problem and again was hit by the latest knee injury during this offseason. Although the player has hoped to show up at training camp, starting from this week, it is seen very difficult to
happen.
On the other hand, the QB himself is returning from a foot surgery he had in November last year. The training camp will be his first formal activity with the team since the surgery, which made him sit out the second half of the 2011 season.
A number of commentators have regularly been drawing the team’s attention to their unfavourable receivers’ situation. They see the team suffering to a greater extent if Johnson does not come back from the injury and the managers are unable to find a befitting
replacement at his position.
The Texans hope Posey’s presence, most probably as a backup, will help them solve the problem to a certain extent.
The WR is a third-round selection from this year’s draft out of Ohio State. His college record consists of 136 receptions for a total 1,955 receiving yards. He stands out at eighth receivers position in the league overall. He was entrusted with the starting
role in 13 games.
With his signing, the Texans have offensive lineman and third-round pick Brandon Brooks left to be given a contract. They have so far signed seven rookies, out of the total eight draft picks.
