Houston Texans’ linebacker Mario Williams targets ‘good’ position on return from injury – NFL News
Houston Texans’ linebacker, Mario Williams, has for the first time spoken about his future football aims since his injury into the week five of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) and the player said to be looking for a better position, even if it comes
out without any substantial financial benefits.
Williams had suffered a torn pectoral muscle and missed most of the past season due to the injury.
Now he has fully recovered from it and started training at the team’s facility in Houston, while he pounders upon on his future options at the same time.
The player whose deal runs on March 13, 2012, has apparently hinted at going free agency after the date to be, what he said, in a good fit, good position and good scheme.
He denied that he was being carried away on the prospects of fetching better financial benefits from any team on the league, saying that the money was not a priority on his mind as he hits the free market.
"I'm not worried about that," Williams said, adding:
"Money is money at the end of the day, and it's really not that big of a deal for me. ... You know, I was the first pick, so I've had everything I've ever really wanted already, so my biggest thing is just being in a good position, being in a good fit, being
in a good scheme or system and just being able to continue my career and progress."
In spite of the linebacker’s absence, Texans’ defence had ranked at number two on the league table and Williams said that he had all those things at the Texans that he finds a motivation for the stay at the side in the future.
He at the same length added “once again, you know, it's part of the business, so whatever happens, happens,” apparently referring to his plans of hitting the free market after his deal with Texans expires.
The linebacker has made $54 million during his first six years of his career as a rookie and has now great prospects of reaching an expensive deal with any team around the NFL.
This is something that the player has denied, saying he was not aiming to become the highest paid defensive player in the league, and reiterated he would certainly be looking for moving to a good position and system.
Houston Texans’ defence had a great role in their most successful run of the league season in 2011. It was for the first time in the history of the franchise that it had claimed a berth into playoff round and then went on to win the wild card game.
They also finished atop the American Football Conference (AFC) South division, and won the divisional title, that too for the first time in their history.
