Houston Texans outscore Detroit Lions in overtime – Week 12 Recap
Detroit Lions lost by 31-34 against Houston Texans in Week 12 game on Thursday, at Ford Field, Detroit, MI.
It was a tough game during which both teams played really well. In the first quarter Lions running back Mikel Leshoure ran for two yards to score a touchdown.
In the second quarter, Texans running back Arian Foster rushed towards the end zone for a six-yard score, taking the score to 7-7.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw a five-yard pass to Mike Thomas and led the team to 14-7. At 2:11, Falcons quarterback Matt Schaub threw a nine-yard pass to tight end Owen Daniels who scored a touchdown and took the score to 14-14.
Schaub completed 29 of 48 passes for 315 yards with one touchdown and an interception.
Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson received a 22-yard pass from Stafford and scored third touchdown for the team with 21-14 lead.
Stafford scored two touchdowns and completed 31 of 61 passes for 441 yards. Talking about overall performance of his team, he said:
"We got what we deserved. We didn't capitalize on our chances."
In the third quarter, Lions kicker Jason Hanson kicked a 46-yard field goal and gained three points, taking the score to 24-14.
Texans running back Justin Forsett rushed for 81 yards and scored a touchdown, reducing the deficit to three points. At this moment, Lions coach Jim Schwartz threw a challenge flag and asked for a review during a scoring play. His challenge was denied.
Later, Texans kicker Shayne Graham kicked a 45-yard field goal and tied the score at 24-24.
In the beginning of the fourth quarter, Lions running back Joique Bell ran for 23 yards towards the end zone, and broke the tie, but at 01:55 Foster rushed for one yard to score a touchdown and tied the game again at 31-31.
In overtime, Graham scored a 32-yard field goal to seal the victory.
Texans’ head coach Gary Kubiak said about the game:
"Obviously, that's a big break in the game for us. But I think you make your breaks when you work your tail off."
Texans are leading American Football Conference (AFC) South with 10-1, on the other hand Lions have won four and lost seven games and stand last in National Football Conference (NFC) North.
Texans and Lions will play their next games against Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts respectively.
