Houston Texans safety Glover Quin aims Jacksonville Jaguars game to settle past score – NFL News
Houston Texans safety Glover Quin admits he simply cannot forget the mistake he had committed while trying to knock down a haul from then Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback David Garrard measuring at about 50 yards, which had given a winning score to the opposition
about two years ago, but insists it was a learning experience for him after all and he will seek to rectify it when both teams meet in the second game of the season this Sunday.
The Jaguars are playing the Texans on the weekend in an American Football Conference (AFC) South division showdown, and although David is no more a quarterback at the Jaguars – he is a free agent following recent release by the Miami Dolphins – Quin is interested
to make up for the loss of his mistake of the last meeting.
Quin said:
"It was a bad thing that happened. It was just an unfortunate situation. I really don't lose any sleep over it."
He added:
"Mistakes are tools of learning, if you learn from them. You obviously want to forget about it going into the next play. But you always remember your experiences, because if you don't remember it, you don't understand how to play it differently."
The safety was selected by the Texans in 2009 as a cornerback, but later when Wade Phillips joined the team as a defensive coordinator and transformed the defence to 3-4 scheme, he was switched to the safety position. The player has since flourished as a
safety and now hardly feels any difference as a result of the transition.
His game is going to play a crucial part in the Texans’ overall performance against the Jaguars, and as he has boasted the game also provides him an opportunity to settle the past score.
Quin has complete confidence in the coaching abilities of Phillips, who has moved away from an approach of his predecessor, who had asked the defensive backs to bat the ball. Phillips instead propagates catching the ball if the players find themselves in
a position to do so. Apparently, all defensive players including Quin have adapted to Phillips’ formula.
