Houston Texans unmoved by loss of key players off free agency, upbeat about next season-NFL News
The Houston Texans will be returning to the league next season without a number of key players, but the management apparently does not see any major impact resulting in from all those changes.
Texans made to the playoffs and won the American Football Conference (AFC) South division in the last National Football League (NFL) season and are coming into the 2012 as a Super Bowl contender.
Recently, the team received a setback in the form of losing some of its key players off the free agency. They include the linebacker, Mario Williams, tight end, Joel Dreessen and linebacker, DeMeco Ryans.
All those departures do not bode well with the team’s higher aims of the new season and some commentators believe that the management might find it very hard to fill in those gaps.
Still, Texans said that they were less likely to be affected by those who have opted to move out of the side and before start of the season.
The phase of organised team activities (OTAs) is going to start late in May, well after the draft season, and the situation at certain positions is going to be clearer then.
Given the way the team has managed to cope with the absence of some of the key players due to their respective injury problems last season, the management could rightly claim performing well in the next season.
It is pertinent to note here that the Houston Texans were without quarterbacks, Matt Schaub, Matt Leinart and wide receiver, Andre Johnson, for most part of the past season.
In spite of having remained quarterback-thin at one point, they managed well to finish the season on top for the first time in their franchise history.
Although it is difficult to ascertain at this moment how they will be coping with the loss of some of their key players, the management hopes to remain less affected by their moves.
Also, they have some time left to evaluate the team at certain positions and try to fill in the gaps created by the departure of all those players before start of the regular season in September this year.
Only good news for them so far is the expected return of Matt Schaub to the squad next season, as he is reported to have been well on the course of recovery from a foot injury.
The player will be coming back after having missed most part of the past season along with another quarterback, Matt Leinart, who has just been released by the team.
It might not be a free ride for Texans next season, as the competitive teams in the AFC South division have undergone massive reshuffling and rebuilding exercise and are expected to come out as far better outfits by all standards.
So, Texans must be looking to find suitable replacements to the players they have lost off the free agency.
