Houston Texans upbeat about QB Matt Schaub's return, hope injuries made him tougher – NFL News
The Houston Texans are upbeat about return of their star quarterback Matt Schaub to action from a foot injury that cost him almost the latter half of the past season and entire this offseason, hoping the challenges associated to recovery and the timeout
would have made him an even better player.
No one is as happy about Schaub’s rejoining of the squad as coach Gary Kubiak, who in one of his recent remarks on the sidelines of training camp said he foresees the quarterback to be more determined to perform better.
Gary said:
"When you're hurt, you don't feel like a part of it. That type of stuff makes it tough. It makes you hungrier. So we need him to come back, stay healthy and continue to push this team to another level."
Irrespective of the question how the quarterback is going to do this season, he is officially confirmed to be back in the team at training camp.
He appears comfortable in his throws and other workout at the camp. Most importantly, he is confident about the Texans chances of doing better than last year, and said he has no reasons to believe why the team should not reach the Super Bowl game.
Matt said:
"With the pieces that we have in this locker room and the guys that we have, anything less won't be getting the job done. We took the next step as a team and the only next step after that is to get to the Super Bowl and win it. So anything short of that
will be a disappointment in our eyes."
The player may be right in his view because the Texans had done a lot better in the past season by reaching the playoffs and winning the American Football Conference (AFC) North division for the first time in their franchise history.
The significance of the achievement is greater given the team had their key players, Schaub, QB Matt Leinart and wide receiver Andre Johnson, out of the squad during most part of the season. Johnson missed as many as nine games.
It is time for them now to ride on the confidence of those wins to progress further this season.
