Houston Texans veteran QB Matt Schaub all cleared to return to full action – NFL News
Good news has arrived for the Houston Texans finally and officially that their star quarterback, Matt Schaub, is all cleared by his doctor to return to action and the player is due to hit training camp, which starts later this month.
Matt did some light workout with his senior colleagues recently, but the stint was without any approval from his doctor.
Some sections of media have quoted anonymous people closer to the team saying that the player has formally made himself available to the squad and this should end the wait of about a full season for him and as well as for the team to have
him back in the line-up.
The veteran QB had a Lisfranc injury in November last year and after having a surgery in the same month, he missed the entire football activity since then. His first workout activity was the recent one he did unofficially with his colleagues.
Texans and also the player had set hopes of his comeback by training camp quite earlier this year and it seems that the confidence has paid him off in form of the timely return to the team.
The management had brought Matt Leinart to replace him at the starting position last season but unfortunately the replacement could last for only a half hour before hitting the sidelines with a collarbone injury.
Now on his rejoining the squad, Schaub faces a competition from the second-year QB, T.J. Yates, who in his absence performed remarkably well and took the team to new glories for the first time.
Texans played the second round (playoffs) for the first time in their history in the 2011 season, after winning the American Football Conference (AFC) South division.
Many commentators agree that the team could potentially have done even better, but for Schaub’s absence.
The veteran’s presence is even more crucial this year because his team has higher standards to achieve. They are coming out on the field as Super Bowl contenders and will attempt to retain past year’s record, if not to improve from that
level.
