Houston Texans warily hopeful in dealing with any injury situation – NFL Feature
The Houston Texans are warily hopeful they should be ready to deal with a situation very similar to the last year’s as far as injury blows to some of key players are concerned.
It is a rare hope that has been given to them by injured linebacker Brian Cushing, who has suffered season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). He said the team can deal with situation as effectively as they did last year.
In 2011, the Texans were without two key quarterbacks, running back and wide receiver during most part of the season. At one point they were QB-thin team in the league and were left to rookie T.J. Yates at the end, and yet they managed to achieve what they
could not do in their entire franchise history. They were through to the playoffs after winning their division, for the first time.
Now coach Gary Kubiak appears to be taken aback with injury of Cushing. Although he called the player’s ousting a setback, he is probably wary of another season with so many players outside with injuries. If the team is through the same number of injuries
as it was last year, it will be really challenging for the coach to meet standards of this year, which are rather higher.
So far so good for the team that they have done well as far as their target of doing better than last year is concerned. They have been heading in the right direction as a team, and all players have contributed well on their ends.
However, a number of players are more crucial than others. Matt Schaub was unlucky to have missed the glorious period of the team last year with a foot injury, which made him sit outside for more than half of the past season.
T.J. Yates has lost his worth as a backup quarterback. He was the most celebrated person last season, and still matters a lot, although he has been forced on the back line given Schaub has taken charge of the offensive line.
The coach has backed the team for better form this year and if the team manages to stay fit at as many positions as it can, reaching Super Bowl should not be impossible for them. It will certainly be difficult given they have to face many challenging sides
on the way to the main game. However, they have proven so far that they can be as good as any other team in the league.
