Houston Texans’ win over Detroit Lions will push them closer to playoffs – NFL News
The Houston Texans are only a game away from confirming their spot in the playoffs and they will be almost done with the season courtesy a possible win over the Detroit Lions this week.
It will be for first time that the team have managed to through to playoffs first of all the franchises in the league. They will make the playoffs in two successive seasons, also for the first time.
This should be another milestone achievement from a team who were through to the second phase of the season for the first time in their history in 2011, and some of the players are already in celebrative mood.
Tight End Owen Daniels said:
"It shows the progress we've made. A few years ago, it took us until the end of the season to get that ninth win. We're at that ninth win already. We're trying to stack `em up, but it's good that those are possibilities this early in the season."
The Texans are on the field as Super Bowl contenders this season, and so far with the impressive record of 9-1 they appeared to be on the course to the title game.
It will also be for quarterback Matt Schaub that he leads the team to the second round and possibly a win of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. He after playing a few games had missed most part of the season in 2011 with a foot injury
and rookie T.J. Yates had led the team to the division title and playoffs.
Yates is playing as a backup for Schaub this year as Schaub is available fully fit since start of the season. He has already performed remarkably well. In the last game, for example, he achieved the second highest yardage of 527 in the league history.
With six more games to go, the Texans are leading the league’s All-Pro 32 standings chart for consecutive weeks. With a couple of more wins they will be in decisive positions to qualify for the playoffs.
The team is upbeat about readiness against the Lions and given the level of form and performance they have shown this season they stand a chance of beating them.
