Houston in celebrations over Texans historic playoff berth – NFL News
The city of Houston has been celebrating return of their team the Texans after winning them a divisional title and making it to playoff for the first time in the franchise history.
Thousands of people gathered to welcome the return of the Texans on Sunday night from their game against Carolina Panthers.
The team celebrated their win of the American Football Conference (AFC) south division title but had to wait to see the Tennessee Titans falling against the New Orleans Saints to make sure that they claimed a berth in playoff.
The crowd gathered at Reliant Stadium to celebrate the win of their team. They were also joined by the families of players and team staff. Jubilant fans praised their players as heroes to have made a history for them.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak was particularly pleased with his team performance and reflected on the celebrations as achievement of a mark they had waited so long
"That's what you work for," Kubiak said Monday. "That's why we've been doing what we've been doing, to get to that point where everybody could experience that."
He also expressed joy over appearance of former players and veterans in the crowd who seemed equally excited about the win with hopes for their team to make it possibly to super bowl.
"It's special to see that excitement," he said. "I know the hard work that's been put in, and the job that the coaches and players in this organization have done, to walk around our building (Monday) and see how proud everybody
that works here is, it was a great day."
The celebrations came prominent given the fact that the Texans had been going through a number of problems due to injuries to their key players over past few weeks. Absence of their quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart due
to foot and collarbone injuries respectively had specially worried them. They however managed to overcome all hurdles to make it to playoff first time.
Kubiak said that he now hoped that all players were fit to playoff. Texans 10-3 still have three more games to play before end of current regular season, and their coach said he was particularly hoping for return of their wide
receiver Andre Johnson who is out due to a hamstring injury.
