Question:

Hover Shoe Project : Is there a small fan capable of lifting humans?

I would like to make a pair of hover shoes. I know there was a guide on youtube on how to make them with magnets (which of course was completely fake, yet still people built them.). I would like to use a high powered fan that is either really small or could be mounted on a persons back. The force going downward would be interrupted by the floor (which doesn't move) and thus the force would cause the person to float.

  1. Mythbusters attempted to build one a few seasons ago.  Ultimately they were unable to build a backpack sized unit that could lift Jaime.

  2. Hover craft effect requires streamlining of the object ,upon which it is to be applied. For a man, the laws of buoyancy do not satisfy, considering his upright structure.

Also you may need compressed air to give the force, which would in turn mean that the fan set up may be small but extremely heavy.

But all projects have difficulties. Get to work , may be you'll invent a thing or two on the way.

Mail me if you have further problems. I was involved sometime back in a hovercraft project myself.
