It's the bathroom light fixture that comes standard with the homes. It has six light bulbs in a row.

  1. It's not that difficult, but you have to make sure you flip the breaker off so you don't get electrocuted.  Here's a good how-to link:

  2. A light fixture that comes standard with the homes??  Are you in a manufactured home (mobile or modular)?

Ok, if the fixture is the type that uses the big decorative globe light bulbs, like this one -

That photo is of a 'nickel' finish, but 'bright brass' is pretty common too.  There is usually a piece that goes around the individual light socket itself (called a decorative cup, or ring).  This would be behind the bulb, but protrudes out from the flat surface of the face.  Sometimes these are threaded, and will unscrew, sometimes they simply pull straight off, and some models have a 'locking tab', where you would only need to turn it 1/4 to 1/2 way.  So, if this is what youve got, you'll need to remove the bulbs first, then those 'cups' around the sockets.  Next, there is usually 2 screws along the top edge (phillips head).  For a unit this long, there might be 3, one at left, right and center of the fixture.  Remove those screws, and the face plate will come off.

By the way... most of these faceplates are installed with a protective plastic film over them... Ive seen cases where homeowners complained because of the 'dull' finish, when they've actually failed to remove the film, hehehe.

Once the face plate is off, you can see the mounting base.  There will be a hole in the wall where the wires come thru.  Undo the wire nuts on the wires, and pull them apart  (you did remember to turn off the electricity to the bathroom, right? hehehe)

Now you can remove whatever screws are holding the mounting base in place, and install your new fixture.

Normally you do NOT have to cut any of the socket wires, to remove this type of fixture.  I've replaced quite a few of these myself, and it only takes about 15 minutes total, to remove, and install a new fixture.

By the way.... some electricians, or home manufacturers will run power to the fixture first....so don't rely on just turning off the light switch.  You might just have a wire that still has current on it... turn off the circuit breaker to the bathroom.

  3. Bring a flashlight.  turn the light off, and unscrew all the bulbs.

I don't know exactly what your fixture looke like.  Are there s***w-on collars where the bulbs were?  If so, unscrew them.

Take the mirror plate off.  There should be some screws you can remove.

  4. I hope you plan on installing a new fixture after taking this one out.

Generally, with a light bar, you must remove the lamps; then the trim cups from behind them. Sometimes that is all that holds the face trim on, sometimes, there are small sheet metal screws that need to be removed.

Turn off the wall switch and tape it on the open position so you don't accidentally bump it and energize the light wiring while you are  working on it.

Remove the wire nuts from the splices, unscrew the mounting screws or toggle bolts, and the fixture should come right down.

Reverse the order to install the new fixture.
