How 'cool' is global warming denial?

Is it a status symbol?

Can you put a figure on it (preferably in deg C)?

Does it make you irresponsible?

Does it make you patriotic or xenophobic?

  1. I think the better question is "Does 'Global Warming' even exist."

    Look at this chart.

    http://environmentaldefenseblogs.org/cli...

Out of 160 years worth of data, just 30 have shown to be above average.  The graph doesn't show the 100 years or so of temperatures higher than average to average out those years that are below average.

The point is, that the Earth has been here before long before airplanes and SUV's.

People who believe science scare me.  These are the same mentality that believe other sciences like Eugenics.

I wonder - Would you consume GM foods?  The science says it's safe, yet skeptics still deny this science.

  2. I don't think you understand that global warming really is just am Earth thing.  I don't think the cavemen complained as much about it, do you?

All your questions are valuations.  there is no logical answer to them, so, when I write logic you have to threaten that they do not answer.

But, lets play your dumb game

global warming denial is as cool as global  warming alarmism.

global warming denial as a status symbol really doesn't make sense, not as a thing, but as a question.

No, you cannot put a figure in degress Celcius on global warming denial, to ask shows the level of your mental capacity (low)

Simply denying something (like the presence of a god) doesn't make you irresponsible, only the actions you justify because of it.

I'm sure there are patriotic and xenophobic people that argue both sides, I don't understand how that is relevent.

  3. It doesnt really make you anything.  It just seems like now in our society if you say stuff that talks about the falsity of global warming, you're a weirdo.  I do it all the time.  I get in "arguments" that always end with me stating a fact and them saying im ignorant.  Many people believe it without doing any research at all.  I look it up all the time so i have a formulated opinion.  It just seems like it's a bandwagon that everyones jumping on.  Eric, thats pretty much communism or fascism, you cant destroy someones rep because they have different theorys.

  4. global warming

    hot topic

cooly ignored by the people who have the power to change the way of the world.

if i could rule the world for just one day, oh the changes would be phenomenal.

  5. I don't know about outright denial (sounds like a topic for the psychiatry section), but its softer side, skepticism, is an important component of science.  In science questioning and modifying our theories not just "cool" it's indispensible.  That's why skeptics are welcome and included in the IPCC process for example.

Consider Steven Schwartz, chief scientist of the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Science Program.  He is proposing a modification of the way that we understand aerosols.

However it would be reckless and misguided (or in some cases deliberately misleading) to claim that such skepticism "disproves" global warming theory.  On the contrary, justified modifications to ur understanding improve the theory.  As a result of his skepticism, here's what Steven Schwartz thinks we have in store for us (I'll leave you to make the conversion to degrees C):

    http://www.ecd.bnl.gov/news/NorthShoreSu...

"I'm very concerned about the world my grandchildren will live in," said Mr. Schwartz, who is currently studying climate change. "There could be an increase of four to eight degrees in the next century, and that's huge. The last time there was a five-degree Celsius decrease was the last ice age. An increase of eight degrees Fahrenheit would bring change unprecedented in the last half-million years."

    http://www.ecd.bnl.gov/news/NationalPost...

Stephen Schwartz knows as much about the effects of aerosols on climate change as anyone in the world, and he's worried. He believes climate change is so massive an economic issue that we face costs "in the trillions if not quadrillions of dollars."

So in science circles Steven Schwartz is very cool.  Scientific skepticism is not about polarizing discussions into an "all or nothing" state.  Other scientists welcome his contributions.  Now his part of the theory will be tested, and likely modified and tuned.  That's the way science moves forward.

(Note - my point is about true, open skepticism that willingly questions all sides, not stubborn, one-sided denial of people who may generously label themselves "skeptics" in an attempt to validate and glorify their unthinking position.)

  6. It is cool! We are not Chicken Little. We also understand how insignificant we are in nature and not as arrogant as those that think they can make a difference in the cosmic structure. Answer this. If we are so powerful as to be able to warm the world, how is it that we cannot cool it if we need to? HUh?

  7. Questioning the AGW hypothesis is one of the most politically incorrect things one can do.  Scientists who question the theory have seen their funding reduced or have been fired.

Edit:  No it does not have any street creed.

  8. Propaganda technique: name calling

"The name-calling technique links a person, or idea, to a negative symbol. The propagandist who uses this technique hopes that the audience will reject the person or the idea on the basis of the negative symbol, instead of looking at the available evidence."

Do you have a question about the science?

  9. Actually, it's sad. See Jello's statement...

"People who believe science scare me."
