Question:

How's It Like, Living In London? Cost/ Living/ Savings?

Hi

I'm thinking of moving to London because of a job. But since I've never been there I'm confused. I currently make around $7-8,000 in New York after taxes.

The job I'm thinking about is around £7000. How much will I be able to save a) if i live in central London b) if i live in a decent place some 30-40 minutes away.

Also since I'm on a visa in the US, I might have difficulty in coming back after a long gap of 3-4 years.

Confused !!

Any ideas/ suggestions/ help?

Thanks

  1. London is much more expensive to live in than america and the exchange rate is massive and  the average house price in london is £300,00 which is $150,000.

  2. £7000 a year? Or a month?

£7000 a year you will starve. In fact i think that is below min wage.

    A decent apartment in a decent area will be £1000 - 1500 a month.

Things in London tend to be double that in the US.

  3. £7000??? I cannot think of any job in London which pays that little, and if there is one: no you will not be able to save a penny. To live in a decent room in a decent place in a decent area will cost you at LEAST £3-400 a month, with £5-600 more likely.

I'm sure you'll be earning more than that, but London is an expensive place to live! Good luck!
