  1. I've never used Calvert, but I have used K12 for 5.5 yrs.  I'm on several K12 Yahoo Groups where former Calvert/Connections Academy users have posted and they love K12 so much better.

Calvert is very "textbooky" and they don't use real literature.  They use "readers".  K12 uses real literature, from around the world, starting in Kindergarten.

K12 teaches to all learning styles not just one (text/workbook) like Calvert.  Also K12's depth and breadth in their scope & sequence is much, much more than Calvert's.

Now if your child's learning style matches Calvert, then try it.  But if they are a mix of styles, or your teaching style does not match, then consider K12.

K12's phonics program is also much more multi-sensory than Calvert's.

One of my friends "filled in" with Calvert at the end of a K12 year (before they had a subscription-based program) and she said her DD completed an entire year in 2 months because it was sooooo simple.  Her DD was also quite bored and asked to go back to K12 lessons ASAP.

Let me know if you have other questions.  If you email me your email address, I can send you a "K12 vs. Calvert" file that was culled from one of the K12 lists a few years ago.

  2. I have used both and prefer the k12. It is much easier to follow. I can tell you that with Calvert, my children needed constant help to know what to do next as to where with the K12, they could follow it on their own. I have used just about every kind out there at one time or another.
