How's it like studying in Spain?

I'm thinking of taking my master's there. I heard the Spanish gov't subisidizes education costs so it's pretty cheap. Anyone here who actually studied in Spain? What it's like? Can you survive even if you're not that proficient in Spanish? How are the living expenses?
