Question:

How's the Crosman Storm XT?

I'm a beginner to air guns. I just want to do some casual targets and maybe a bird or two. I saw the Crosman at Walmart for only 100$. Exactly how loud is it before and after the first few shots? Also, is it durable, and how far can it shoot to be reasonable accurate? Thanks.

  1. >>How's the Crosman Storm XT<<

It's a reasonable powerful and reasonable accurate rifle, don't expect a well made or durable one.

Crosman rifles are notorious for being fragile.

    Crosman Storm XT - Specs

    >>How loud<<

The Storm XT might be louder than normal the first few shots, but it's average sound wise for a springer. About as loud as a bouncing basketball.

    >>How accurate<<

Air rifles tend to be very particular about the pellets they prefer, even if you and I had the exact same rifle, chances are they would like different pellets. Once you find the best for your Storm XT you should be able to get "around" 3/4in groups at 30 yards.

Depending on you and your rifle/pellet combination your rifle should be effective for small game out to around 45 yards.

Good quality pellets - at a reasonable cost

    Crosman Premier - Domed Lights

    RWS - Superdomes

    Beeman - Silver Ace

    JSB - Exact

Finding the perfect pellets for your air rifle is part of the fun. If you have friends with airguns, trade pellets with them, I give you 50 of these for 50 of those. Just make sure you write on the container you put the pellets in, exactly what they are. You don't want to find the perfect pellet for your rifle, then not remember what they are.

Comparable air rifles in the same price range.

    Crosman - Phantom or Quest*

    Ruger - Air Hawk

    * If given my choice, I would take the Quest 1000X

You could get a better rifle(IMO) for $140 - The Benjamin 397 - It's not as powerful as the Storm XT, but it's reasonable accurate and a very durable rifle.

Since you were concerned with noise, I will warn you, the 397 is a loud air rifle.

For around twice the $$ of the Storm XT you can buy a rifle many times the quality. The RWS 34 "IMO" is the best value air rifle made anywhere. $187 - $199 or $225 for the RWS 34 & RWS 4x32 scope combo

    "Diana" RWS 34

    RWS 34 - Panther

    RWS 34 "combo"

For the $$ you get a high quality, powerful, accurate, very durable, spring piston sporter with a lifetime warranty.
