How 'safe' is The Esplanade area in Toronto, namely the small streets south of it?

Yes, I have been there and it is a somewhat safe neighborhood.

The Esplanade is a fairly safe area.  There are some people in subsidized homes but some of those buildings are also condominiums and then there are a couple of hotels there as well.  I used to hang out in that area a lot when I was living in Toronto and the night life is great right in that area.
