  1. U DONT RIDE!!! if u did u would no the amount of work it is and i get mad cause sit down in a chair and put ur heels on the ground and get up and down without moving ur feet and u will see the exercise part of it!!! now do that for about an hour cause that is the time of my lesson and i do that twice week!!

  2. Try posting the trot without your stirrups and then tell me that you didn't use any calories.  If you're just sitting on the horse or just walking, you're not doing much, it's true.  But it takes a lot of energy to get the horse to do what you ask... if you have a horse that's lazy, you'd be surprised at how much work you have to do to make it go.  You need to squeeze with your legs and push with your seat.  And if you're jumping, you do a ton of work to get yourself out of the saddle during the jumps.  A lot of the calories are used when you try to balance on the horse... you can't be a good rider and just sit there doing nothing.

  3. Posting the trot is definitely a great workout. My trainer has been having me sit the trot with my feet out of the stirrups, so my legs can get stronger. It's been killer!

  4. Your body is shifting, clenching, gripping. The horse's energy is spend moving you forward. Your energy is expended staying on the horse. Riding a horse is much more strenuous than sitting in a motionless chair.

  5. The first person that answered is correct and if you ride English, posting the trot is lots of exercise too.

  6. Well your question was the horse doing all the work

    well then you burn NONE

Now if you are a rider you will burn tons if you ride right
