Question:

How Bad is the Pain when you get Blood Taken?

Ok, I'm terrified about getting needles stuck into me. The last time I got blood work done was when I was 8 and now I'm 15. And I have to get it done or else my doctor won't sign the papers for me to do sports.

So be honest...how bad is the pain? And how long does it last?

I'm going to have to get it down no matter what...

  1. It's not so bad... just relax- it hurts way less that way. Relax your whole body and especially your arm. Think pleasant thoughts... I know it sounds hokey, but I think about my favorite entertainer (John Denver, may he rest in peace- you've probably never heard of him!) and that can get me through anything! It also, unfortunately, depends on the technician who does it! But, it'll all be fine and over within a couple of minutes. Good luck!

  2. I think you'll find that it is much less of a deal at age 15.  Its only a quick jab. The hurt is gone in about 3 seconds.   Imagine one of your buddies giving you a quick jab in the ribs.  Same thing.

I've been giving blood at the Red Cross twice a year for 40 years.  It still hurts, but its no big deal.

Headaches, for instance, are worse and they last a long time.

  3. It doesn't hurt very much at all. Usually you don't feel a thing. I get blood drawn all the time and it never hurts. Your playing sporting events so tough it out. Just don't watch the actual insertion of the needle and you probably won't feel it. Happy trails....
