How Can Carbon Intensify Heat When Mars Atmosphere is made up 95%co2 contrasted to Earths measly .38%?

They say that the sun dosent affect our warming as much as co2 but how can they say that when mars is constantly frozen hundreds of degrees below zero. Of course they will say yes but mars is farther from the sun. AND Jupiter is going through climate change. I dont see how carbon effects warming at all.

  1. You stated Earth's co2 concentrations too high.  It's 0.038%.

    Your right.  Even though Mars atmosphere is thiner than Earth's, the consentration of co2 is still about 30 times greater than here on Earth, yet it has temperatures far below than what is seen here.

    Dana is correct in that the Sun is the cause for all warming on the planets.

    Also Mar's CO2 is not increasing and the planet is much farther from Earth. When it comes to most issues it is best to compare apples with apples.

  3. It's not the percentage, it's the absolute concentration.  Mars atmosphere is so thin it actually has little CO2.

    Also, CO2 has to cause warming - basic physics.  It does so on Mars also, making it warmer than it otherwise would be.  But the concentration of CO2 on Mars isn't increasing like it is on Earth.

  5. Let's also take a look at Io, one of Jupiter's 4 Galilean Moons. The temperature here ranges from -135 centigrade to 27 centigrade, its atmosphere comprising mainly of sulfur and sulfur dioxide.  No CO2 here, and yet it's surface temperature is equivalent to that found on Mars, Mars is 1.66 AU from the Sun and IO is 5.20 AU from the Sun.

    Let global warming followers explain that..

    1) Mars is further from the Sun.

    2) Mars has a less dense atmosphere.

    3) Mars has very little water vapor - a strong greenhouse feedback.

    Additionally, CO2 traps heat because that's how greenhouse gases work.

    On top of that, if CO2 didn't trap heat, then why is Venus hotter than Mercury despite being twice as far from the Sun?

  7. The first, and most obvious, reason it is much further from the sun.

    The second reason is because Mars' atmosphere does not have water, which is the more significant greenhouse gas on Earth.

    Mars' atmosphere does have a greenhouse effect due to carbon dioxide, more so than Earth's, but it has less greenhouse effect overall.

    EDIT:  Nice try, whatever.  I checked out your little challenge, at first seeking to find an explanation, but then I found the actual average temperature is about 100 to 110K , or -173 to -163 degrees C. ( http://www.planetaryexploration.net/jupi... )

    The numbers you used were in fact, the typical subsolar temperature,135 K or -138 degrees C, and the typical hotspot temperature, 300 K or 27 degrees C. ( http://www.resa.net/nasa/io.htm )  The hotspots are the result of volcanic activity.

  8. Mars isn't "hundreds" of degrees below zero. It *would be* hundreds of degrees below zero without its very thin CO2 atmosphere. But that atmosphere, even though very thin, holds in enough heat to raise the temperature on Mars to maybe 80 below.

  9. The real truth is the sun causes all warming. Someone recently said that humidity is the real warming element. So how does water get in the air to cause humidity that retains heat. Easy the sun heats it until it evaporates in to the air and then the air can hold heat. Interesting experiment anyone can do any time depending on the weather. Go outside at midnight on a day when the humidity is low and no clouds, it gets cold because there is no humidity to hold the days heat.

    Do the same on a humid night and you will feel it is still very hot even in the middle of the night. So what causes global warming, humidity (water vapor in the air) raised from heat generated by the sun. When solar output is low we have lower humidity and the air cools off, when solar output is high humidity rises and the air warms up because the humidity retains the suns heat. Co2 on the other hand makes great plant food and makes green vegetation grow better producing more food and oxygen for us to eat and breath. Lower Co2 levels and people will starve all over the world.
