Question:

How Can I Buy Something Part Time in Paris?

I travel to Paris at least twice a year and I am looking for a way to keep from throwing money away on hotel rooms and rent. Any ideas out there? I would like to get some kind of return on my investment so I do not want to do a time share.

  1. The French system isnt geared towards the foreign investor. The French government charge a fee called a 'frais de notaire' which is around 15 percent of the cost of the property. Also you are taxed 5 percent of any profits if you sell within five years of buying.

On one hand this is a good thing as it stops foreign people buying to invest and raising the house prices like in the UK however it is a foreign investor's nightmare. The system is good for French people  as they have an excellent buy to let scheme here but you have to be French.

  2. try looking

  3. Have an affair

  4. Theres always hostels. If you go to gar de nord where the eurolines coaches terminate you will see a whole host of people flogging cheap rooms for about 30 to 40 a night.

Have a look where students stay. Call into your local university

  5. I don't think you can do that but you can buy a studio (for under 150,000) or room (for under 80,000) and rent it out to tourists by the week when you are not in it. Have a property manager deal with the rentals if you do not have time yourself.
