I'm 12 years old and going into the 7th grade.

I'm starting to go a lot of places this year alone with friends.

I am having to share a cell phone with my older brother who is 15.

ANY IDEAS OF WHAT TO TELL MY DAD?

  1. Tell him something like... Ok, Imagine this... I am hanging out with my friends.. and something happens where I lose them or something... AND have no money for a pay phone... what do you expect me to do then??? That is only one of many different reasons why I should have a cell phone. and just keep giving him different scenarios. or just act like the commercial for the GO phone.

  2. Try to explain calmly and rationally that you will be going places without your parents or your brother. If the two of you need the cell phone on the same night, there's a safety issue.  Tell your dad that responsible with it, and call him to let him know what your doing, so he doesn't have to worry. Try to make it sound like you want one for his sake, or even that it was his idea.

The main thing is to be calm, and use logical, rational reasoning to show that you are mature enough for a cell phone. If you whine and complain, he's not going to think you're ready for that big of a responsibility and/or not let you go out with your friends.

  3. i'm 12 too and the way i convinced my mom and dad is giving them alot of scenerios like what if i miss the buss and i don't have any change for the pay phone how am i suppose to call and tell you! my mom and dad were ike yah thats true so then that day i went off to t-mobile and gota razor try this stratagie might work! :)

  4. give him some safety scenarios in which you would need your phone

i was in one of those situations and my mom got me a phone

  5. u shudnt even be on yahoo answers if ur not 13! but anyway..theres only one way to convince parents...and that is to plead and beg and cry and whine and cry and beg and plead again until u get it.

  6. Well, tell him what you just wrote here.  You're starting to go places ALONE with friends.  He'll have to be able to get ahold of you if he needs to.  Or you a hold of him.  Also, you'll need a phone in case of emergencies.  Perhaps sharing a phone with your brother worked in the past but now you're older and so is he and what happens when you BOTH go out at the same time?

If you wanted to start with something simple you could ask him for a prepaid phone from verizon.  That would give you a cell phone to use in case you NEED to call someone and there would be no worry of a contract or a HIGH bill.
