How Can I Create LAN Between Four Computers?

I have Two PC's and two laptops in my room...

I just need to connect all of them..i don't want internet access, but I need to make sure that each one is connected to all the other ones

Buy a router and 4 cat5 ethernet cables.

Make sure that each computer has an ethernet card.

Plug each cable into the ethernet card and router.

Switch on the router.

Create a network by setting each computer to use the same Domain name.

Work out the details as you go along - it really isn't hard.

Wireless or Ethernet. Either way you will need network cards and a swtich (or a wireless router)

for ethernet you can pick up a switch for maybe 20-30.00 and then you need to get the ethernet cables - and make sure each computer has a network card.

the cable can get expencive very fast.

for wireless - get a wireless router and wireless network cards - no cables needed. ALso you can get USB wireless network cards so you dont need to open your computer.

the simple and easy answer is to buy a wireless router

all routers are fine - dlink and linksys are the two most popular

get a g - or if the laptops have n then perhaps n ???

even an older b wireless runs faster than the internet

However if you have an internal lan the extra speed of the g will help big time

even if you go on the internet transfer of files between computers will be within your network - not on the internet network

make sure that the router is high and uncluttered

change the channel and ssid from default settings

channels 1 and 11 are first best picks

Hooked up on the router you can create a network with the windows tools if you want to share files , printers etc etc
